Del Mar Workers File Lawsuit In San Diego Court

Office workers have reportedly filed a $200 million lawsuit in San Diego courts , requesting justice for an alleged number of workers that were not provided minimum pay and overtime. The three workers are employed at the Del Mar offices of Northwestern Mutual, an insurance company that is headquartered in Milwaukee.

The lawsuit proposes 200 million dollars in damages in the class action lawsuit. the worker’s federal complaint makes claims that the insurance company improperly classifies it workers, namely financial representatives and sales representatives, as “independent contractors” is bypass federal and state pay requirements. Since the workers are classified as independent contractors rather than employers, Northwestern Mutual was not required to pay its workers according to wage and hour regulations, despite the fact that they worked in office.

According to a spokesperson from Northwestern Mutual, however, the workers’ allegations are “without merit. The Northwestern Mutual spokesperson also confirmed that the workers are indeed independent contractors, not employees of Northwestern Mutual. The proposed lawsuit accounts for 100 million dollars in unpaid wages and liquidated damages on both the state and federal level.

Surfer Rescued By San Diego Lifeguard Dies In Hospital

A surfer rescued earlier by San Diego lifeguards has now died as of July 1. The man, who was 50 at the time of his recreational accident and later death, was the victim of medical trauma while he was surfing, which caused the accident. The man was located on Tuesday evening by other surfers in the water, where he lay facedown and concussions accompanied by his board, according to a San Diego lifeguard. Lifeguards assisted the man from the water, who at the time remained unconscious. CPR was performed to resuscitate the man until paramedics arrived later.

Authorities identified the La Jolla surfer as William J. Ryan.
