At around 4:29 p.m., the woman was driving the car, a 1990 Toyota, northbound down Montongo Street when she swerved onto the side of the road, apparently being affected by drugs or alcohol at the time. The car hit a curb after swerving, which caused it to spin out of control and finally hit a tree.

The woman is now in the trauma center of a hospital, having sustained multiple injuries in the crash. Police say she has lacerations that include a head injury and an injury to one of her arms.

Prior to the accident, Baron L.  Mahrling was driving eastbound in his gold 1996 Chevrolet Silverado in Ellis Avenue at approximately 1:45 p.m.   For unknown reasons, he accelerated and charged into opposing traffic west of Bushard Street.  Mahrling then struck a black 1998 Nissan Frontier truck causing minor injury to 31-year-old Todd B. Gruca.  The Silverado continued on across the street, jumped a curb and slammed into a power pole and brick wall.   The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
