Woman Rushed to Medical Center after being Hit in Parking Lot

A 46-year-old woman was rushed to the UCSD medical center after she was struck by a van in a Chula Vista parking lot this past Thursday. She suffered a skull fracture and was stated to be in critical condition late Thursday night.

The woman was hit by a 43-year-old man who was driving a van that was traveling slowly through the lot. Authorities revealed that the van collision occurred near the northeast corner of Broadway and Palomar Street around 6:45 p.m. but the driver had to be told by onlookers that he had hit the woman before he stopped.

It was then that the driver looked out his window and noticed the pedestrian lying under the van with her legs straddling the front left tire.

In Fullerton, a 12-year old child was struck by an SUV on her way to school. Mutiple Car Collision Prompts SigAlert on I-5 Freeway

A multiple vehicle accident in Anaheim this morning prompted a temporary SigAlert after three cars collided near Lincoln avenue. The automobiles involved were a gray Chevrolet Aveo LT, a brown F150 Ford Pickup, and another unidentified pick up. According to an eye witness, the accident was instigated by a wrong way driver. Investigators were called onto the scene around 11:23 a.m. and are looking into the wrong way driver scenario. A car-versus-bicycle accident in San Diego left a 9-year-old bloodied and subsequently hospitalized. 33-year-old Gustavo Garcia was killed 6:50 am Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer overturned on a North County freeway interchange crushing the sedan he was driving. A San Diego car accident involving a 2-year-old boy has left the toddler brain dead. Victim Christopher Chavez was struck by a mini Cooper around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday at the 3300 block of Idlewild Way in Clairemont Tuesday evening and was taken to a Rady’s children’s Hospital. 2 People Struck and Injured in I-15 Accident

2 people performing trash pick up duties were hurt when a car hit them as they were working along I-15 in City Heights Thursday. One of the victims, a Caltrans employee and one of the probationers she was overseeing were seriously injured and taken to area hospitals. They were struck by a 1992 Infiniti J30 that was traveling northbound when it swerved off to the right hand side of the freeway just south of the I-805 interchange. The car collided with the slow-moving Caltrans van on the shoulder shortly after 10:30 a.m. and bounced off the van before sliding into the man and woman that were working in front of it.

The duo was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment of major injuries. The driver of the Infiniti, a 50-year-old woman, was taken to neighboring UCSD Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries and released that afternoon. Smart Car Crashes into Light Pole in Irvine

At approximately 9:41 a.m. a reported smart car convertible crashed into alight pole in Irvine. The crash occurred this morning on the southbound 133 freeway and Barranca Parkway and caused the pole to fall over and expose internal wiring. At least one person was trapped inside the car and an ambulance was called. Head injury was also reported but the extent of injury was not confirmed at press time. The Barranca off-ramp had to be closed to clear the accident.

In Newport Beach today a repeat DUI offender was denied a plea bargain in a vehicular homicide case involving Charles David Lewis Jr., one of the founders of the clothing company TapouT. Lewis Jr., a famed mixed martial art entrepreneur, was killed in March after defendant Jeffery David Kirby hit the victims’ Ferrari with his own 1977 Porsche on Jamboree Road in Newport Beach. 51-year-old Kirby claimed that Lewis was speeding and contributed to his own demise but an Orange County Judge was not buying it. Although Kirby and Lewis had been racing, Kirby was said to have a blood alcohol level of .13 a few hours after the crash. He also had previous drunk driving convictions.

Lewis, who called himself “Mask” died almost instantly when the Porsche lost control struck the Lewis’s vehicle. The Ferrari was then torn into three pieces after jumping a curb and ramming a cement light pole. Lacy Lynn White, Lewis girlfriend, was seriously injured after being ejected from the Ferrari. She suffered a broken vertebrae, hip and shattered elbow.

Criminal charges notwithstanding, Kirby may also face the possibility of a wrongful death lawsuit for Lewis’s demise because of his recklessness. Sedan and Van Crash Head on Near School

A head on collision in Anaheim near an elementary school resulted in paramedics being called to the scene although no one was taken to the hospital. The incident occurred near the crosswalk of Westmont Elementary School and mall at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Westmont Drive and Loara Street. The vehicles, a Honda Accord and a blue van which had the words “Advanced Clinical Research Institute” written on the side of it, both sustained substantial front end damage.

According the witnesses, the Honda was turning left on Westmont in front of the van when they collided into one another. The driver of the Honda, a woman, told authorities she was experiencing chest pains paramedics at the scene did not take her to the hospital.

Although the woman who complained of pain was not taken to the hospital it may be in her best interest to see a doctor anyway.
