Escondido House Fire Called Suspicious

A fire that blazed a home in Escondido has been deemed suspicious by the firefighters who battled its flames, an official reported. The fire was reported at 1:35 am at a location south of East Mission Avenue on Ash Street. When firefighters responded to the call, they found significant flames in the home, especially in the garage and kitchen. Firefighters contained the fire quickly, but were suspicious as its cause could not be found.

According to a fire official, there was no indication of an electrical problem, carelessness, or other cause. However, it was discovered that home’s former occupant, a renter, had just moved out the day before. The previous renter was at the fire, apparently after being contacted by the neighbor. San Pedro Home Consumed in Fire

A house on the 1300 Block of West 17th Street caught on fire at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday morning in San Pedro. The blaze was extremely intense and black plumes of smoke rose high into the morning sky as firefighters struggled to contain the flames. It took roughly thirty-six firefighters thirty minutes to finally dispel the fire.

No fire fighters or house occupants were hurt and damages have yet to be estimated. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

San Diego Gas & Electrical Company Settles Damages With Some Insurers

Sempra Energy’s San Diego Gas & Electrical company has now settled with some insurers to pay a total of $686 million dollars for the spread of damages that occurred the 2007 San Diego wildfires. In October 2007, a wildfires blazed throughout San Diego county, causing destruction across over 1300 homes and 2 commercial buildings. The wildfires stretched from Malibu to the Mexico border, bringing injuries to 40 while also killing 2 people.

According to reports, the companies settlement will account for 75 percent of the insurance companies involved in the extensive litigation, a noteworthy step in the process that has taken months. The resulting settlement places neither fault nor liability on Sempra Energy, it only aims to settle on the negotiations that have taken place, according to a San Diego Gas & Electric spokesperson.

Sempra Energy continues to negotiate with the other insurers and plans to conclude settlements within weeks, said SDG&E spokeswoman Stephanie Donovan. A total exceeding 100 lawsuits have been filed against SDG&E and Sempra Energy due to the San Diego wildfires.

Del Mar Workers File Lawsuit In San Diego Court

Office workers have reportedly filed a $200 million lawsuit in San Diego courts , requesting justice for an alleged number of workers that were not provided minimum pay and overtime. The three workers are employed at the Del Mar offices of Northwestern Mutual, an insurance company that is headquartered in Milwaukee.

The lawsuit proposes 200 million dollars in damages in the class action lawsuit. the worker’s federal complaint makes claims that the insurance company improperly classifies it workers, namely financial representatives and sales representatives, as “independent contractors” is bypass federal and state pay requirements. Since the workers are classified as independent contractors rather than employers, Northwestern Mutual was not required to pay its workers according to wage and hour regulations, despite the fact that they worked in office.

According to a spokesperson from Northwestern Mutual, however, the workers’ allegations are “without merit. The Northwestern Mutual spokesperson also confirmed that the workers are indeed independent contractors, not employees of Northwestern Mutual. A boy became trapped in a storm drain while attempting to retrieve a lost toy, immobilizing himself for around 40 minutes until an El Cajon rescue crew reported to the scene. Laguna Woods Fire causes $220, 000 Dollars in Damages

A fire that may have started on the fourth floor of the Towers at Laguna Woods Village caused an estimated $220, 000 dollars worth of property damage. Ford Mustang Found Ablaze on Freeway 55

A car was found engulfed in flames on Freeway 55 in Orange County early this morning. The 1985 red Ford Mustang’s interior was completely destroyed by the fire, which was put out by Anaheim firefighters after they received a call about the blaze at around 8 a.m.

The vehicle, which was situated southbound on the 55 freeway just south of 91, was pulled over onto the far shoulder of the road and was devoid of passengers. A spokesman for the fire department said that ignition apparently started from underneath the car. The owner has not been located and investigation continues into the incident.
