A group of passengers and crew involved in a boat accident off San Diego Harbor were rescued by the Coast Guard and San Diego Police this past weekend. In total, 26 were rescued off board of the boat, a fishing charter vessel.
The passengers and crew became stranded on Friday when the fishing boat crashed into a rock mid-sea. The impact of the boat accident placed a hole into the side of the boat that disabled it from moving. According to Phil Lobred, owner of the dock, the boat was left with a hole the size of a bowling-ball. The boat began taking in large amounts of water, putting passengers and crew at risk.
A mayday call to the Coast Guard at around 1:20 a.m. brought San Diego Harbor Police and Coast Guard to the scene of the boat accident. 22 passengers and 1 crew member were taken away by a helicopter, while 4 other crew members remained on the boat with the Coast Guard to handle the damage.
