Accident On San Diego Freeway Ignites Brush Fire, Injuring Two
Jun 28th, 2010 by RichmondJ
When a vehicle on a San Diego freeway veered off road, overturned, and began burning, a brush fire ignited in the vegetation on the divider — causing chaos and delays across the freeway. The crash and initial fire took place at around 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, but continued for several hours, eventually engulfing around 10 acres.
It was on Interstate 8, near Carriza Gorge Road in Jucumba, San Diego County, where the crash and fire took place. The accident was a single vehicle accident — only one car was involved. However, two people, presumably occupants of that car, were injured in the crash. One of them was escorted to a local hospital by airlift, where she will be treated in the trauma center. The cause of the accident was not clear.
CHP closed down that area on the interstate freeway for hours until they could stop the fire. They enlisted the help of 10 fire engines, four crews, a bulldozer, and several helicopters in order to do so.
