One-year-old Hit and Dragged up Redondo Ave. in Long Beach

A one-year-old girl was struck and killed by an Dodge Durango SUV in Long Beach late Friday night and was dragged nearly a mile down Redondo Avenue before the driver finally stopped. SUV driver Neely Dinkins, 33, was charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, driving under the influence, hit and run and driving with a suspended license. His bail has been set at $50,000 dollars. Another child was also critically injured after being hit by the SUV at about 8:30 p.m. Friday. Both children were struck at 10th Street and Redondo Avenue and one was dragged several blocks to the intersection of Redondo and Wilton Street. That child was declared dead at the scene.
This scenario is the stuff of nightmares for many parents. No one wants to receive the news that their child has been killed. Compounding this tragedy is the fact that the driver was drunk and driving on a suspend license when he struck the children. This gives the parents more than enough cause to pursue the man in court via wrongful death litigation.
