A collision knocked out the electrical supply to 300 residents after city councilman Andy Tuan Ngoc Quach slammed his black S550 Mercedes-Benz into a power pole. The car accident occurred right around Midnight Saturday evening and could have been the result of a drinking and driving episode. It took emergency power crews until 2:30 p.m. today to restore electricity to Newland and Magnolia streets as well as McFadden Avenue which was south of the crash site and also affected.
The remorseful councilman says he takes full responsibility for the incident. “I got into a very bad car accident,” he replied this afternoon. “I’m hurting physically and emotionally right now. But I’m extremely relieved and so grateful that no one else was hurt in this accident.” Quach went on to say that he was on his way home after dinner with friends and must have nodded off while he was driving. Quach did not submit to taking a breathalyzer test but did have his blood drawn and is currently awaiting results. It will take a couple of weeks to determine if the blood alcohol levels were significant enough to contribute to the car accident.
Quach was lucky that no one was hurt in the collison — it could have been so much worse. Every day people are seruiolsy injured by drunk drivers or those who fall asleep at the wheel of their cars.
