A head on collision between a car and a passenger bus occurred in Bonsall California on State Route 76 just before 2 p.m. today. The accident happened when a 2002 Chrysler Sebring swerved into oncoming traffic on Olive Hill Road for reasons unknown. 23-year-old motorist Roman Mercado of Hemet was trapped in his Chrysler with severe injuries to his left leg shortly after the wreck. Emergency crews eventually freed Mercado from the wreckage and he was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. An individual on the North Country Transit District bus was the only one of ten passengers to suffer minor injuries. At the time of the accident, it didn’t appear as if alcohol or drug use was a factor in the collision.
