Chula Vista Officer Injured During Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle

A Chula Vista Police officer became victim to neck, back, and leg injuries during a police chase that ended in a car accident. At about 9 pm, the California Highway was alerted of a vehicle that had been stolen, and the aforesaid officer was put on the case alongside CHP officers. According to reports, the officer was pursuing a reportedly stolen vehicle when the other driver lost control, crashing into his car. In an initial effort, the police used a spike strip to stop the car, but the driver was able to speed past.
Later, the driver lost control of his vehicle and ended in the parking lot of a Melrose Avenue taco shop, there crashing into the police officer. During the crash, a power pole was also knocked down, removing power from an estimated 5,000 SD G E customers throughout the area. The officer, who wasn’t named, has been taken to a hospital for treatment. It was reported that the passenger of the stolen vehicle has surrendered.
