CHP Investigating Drunk Driving As A Possible Cause of Lakeside Accident

A fatal accident early yesterday morning may have been caused by drunk driving, authorities said. According to San Diego police, the accident took place at the 14000 block of El Monte Road, first seen by an off-duty officer just after 1 in the morning. The driver, Nico Faulk of San Diego, was traveling westbound on El Monte in a Volvo when the crash occurred. Faulk drove into the shoulder for 200 feet before swinging back through an embankment and then into an oak tree, crashing into it. One passenger, Patrick Michael Elerding, 34 of Santee, was killed when the vehicle crashed into the tree. The driver, who is suspected of drunk driving, has been taken into the hospital with minor injuries. He was also arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
