A suspect involved pulled over for speeding ended an ongoing high speed chase after driving into a vintage airplane at Gillespie field in El Cajon, where he then continued to crash into a nearby hangar as well. The police chase started after the suspect, 35-year-old Patrick Michael Ray, was pulled over for speeding on an El Cajon Rd. As the officer stood from his car to address the incident, Ray fled in his vehicle, initiating both the police chase and later car accident.
According to reports from El Cajon police, Ray was driving at a speed over 100 mph on Johnson Avenue but lost control during a turn, which lead him across s a ravine and into the Gillespie field. After landing in the tarmac of Gillespie field, the car hit a vintage airplane and then crashed into a hangar, breaking the wings of the plane and causing significant damage to the hangar. Ray, who suffered moderate injuries during the car accident, was taken to a hospital where he received treatment.
