Two time convicted felon Danny Ruiz faces lifetime in prison if he is convicted for the DUI related killing of his pregnant girlfriend. The fateful car accident happened May 3, 2008, when the drunken Ruiz crashed his Chevrolet Blazer into a palm tree on Camino de Estrella in San Clemente. The collision instantly killed his 33-year-old girlfriend, Andrea Gordon and their unborn child.
It was discovered that the 36-year-old ex-con’s blood-alcohol level of 0.17 percent, well over the legal limit, at the time of the crash. He faces a maximum of 67 years on prison if convicted a third time.
Ruiz could also face civil litigation from Gordon’s surviving family members for wrongful death. Not only was Ruiz guilty of the DUI that killed his girlfriend, he had a previous DUI under his belt as well. The result of that conviction lead to classes where Ruiz learned about the dangers of DUI driving. He was also taught that an individual could be charged with murder when a DUI related accident results in a fatality. Unfortunately, Ruiz did not learn his lesson.
