A 26-year-old man was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene of the accident. The hit-and-run incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. at West Avenue O near 180th Street East and left Abraham Guevara, 26, dead. It was believed that Guevara was jogging on the north shoulder of “Avenue O” when he was hit. Authorities have been able to determine that the man who hit the jogger was driving a light blue Hyundai.
A car mirror left at the scene aided in determining the car’s make and model. There was also a broken windshield and headlight glass at the accident site.
This unfortunate incident has left family members with tons of sorrow and myriads of questions. Sadness is often highlighted when a car accident occurs where the driver left the scene of the crime. When the driver is located, more often than not they fled the scene because they were drunk or doing something unlawful, like speeding.
