Family of Slain Woman Seeks $20 Million

The family of a woman that was shot and killed by police after a high speed chase that spanned several counties are seeking financial damages via a wrongful death lawsuit. Despite the pursuit, family members are alleging that the officers used deadly force in a situation where it was not needed. The suit also alleges that officers placed the woman’s 13-month-old daughter in jeopardy during the shoot-out.
The incident in question occurred just after 1 a.m. April 10th near a Food 4 Less supermarket in Santa Ana following a high speed pursuit. The 27-year-old victim, Susie Kim, was shot after leading police on a thirty-minute chase. The victim’s daughter was unharmed and taken to the Orangewood Children’s Home where she was later placed in the custody of her grandparents.
Of course, only a thorough investigation can determine if the officers were negligent in how they handled the pursuit. If found to have responded in an overkill, reactionary fashion, the family may be entitled to financial damages. You are afforded these same rights if your family member is killed in a similar situation.
