East Long Beach Hit-and-Run Incident Ends in Gunfire

A Long Beach hit-and-run incident added insult to injury when the victim was shot at by the very man who struck his vehicle.
Police were flagged down by a 21-year-old man at the corner of Palo Verde Avenue and Spring Street at around 7:30 p.m. who told them that he was hit from behind by another motorist. When he got out of his car to exchange insurance information. the man fled. The 21-year-old accident victim chased after the suspect, who produced a gun, turned and fired shots at him. The victim was not hit and the car, while damaged, did not sustain any bullet holes. Authorities tracked the perpetrator down at his home and identified the driver as 20-year-old Forest William III of Cerritos. He was arrested and booked but got out on a $50,000 bound.
The scenario could have been much worst, still, the victim could have sustained injuries from his accident that may show up at a later date—some spinal and brain injuries can be extensive even when the victim appears coherent. Other auto victims have been released from the hospital to later die of the injuries while at home. The shooter could very well still face the possibility of both criminal and civil charges in the matter especially if the hit-and-run victim discovers they have degenerative condition that stemmed from the wreck.
