B-B-Q May Have Sparked Fatal Apartment Fire
Jul 22nd, 2009 by ANorman
An apartment fire that killed two men in Huntington Beach may have been caused by a spark from a barbecue grill. Witnesses say that they believe the grill started the blaze which occurred just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the Ocean Villas apartments on Warner Avenue and Edwards Street. Firefighters were able to put out the fire in record time, but not before two men, Travis McCarthy, 25, and Matthew Danihels, 29, succumbed to the flames.
Although some say a barbecue grill may be the catalyst, authorities are looking into other causes as well. The coroner is also investigating an alternate cause of death for the two fire victims.
Things are not always what they seem and sometimes witnesses can be mistaken. This is why a thorough investigation is needed to determine the true cause of the fire as well as the men’s deaths. Truth be told, it appears highly unlikely that two men, who were asleep, would be barbequing at 1 a.m. in the morning. This means there is a potential that the fire was either deliberately set or caused by someone else’s negligence.
