A woman and her front seat passenger were involved in a SUV collision on Wednesday afternoon that ended as a fatal traffic accident. The deceased, a 63-year-old Desert Hot Springs woman, died soon after her sedan was broadsided by a sports utility vehicle at Palm Drive and Varner Road.
Karen Lee Hamlin, who was in the front seat, was injured 3:20 p.m., and later succumbed to her injuries around 3:55 p.m. at the Desert Regional Medical Center. The investigation is still on-going and the cause of the accident is not readily known.
As family members grieve, the stark reality of the situation will become very clear. Someone is directly responsible for their loved one’s death. Indeed, it is more than likely that the SUV driver is at fault since most broadside car accidents occur due to driver error. Further investigation into the matter will make things even more apparent. When fault is indeed established, the family will be able to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.
