2 Cyclists Injured, 1 Cyclist Killed after Hit-And-Run Accident

The driver of a pickup truck that struck three cyclists Sunday morning on Bouquet Canyon Road was arrested on suspicion of murder, DUI and hit-and-run. The A 20-year-old Canyon Country man’s bail was set at $1.1 million dollars as authorities continue to investigate the incident.
The crash in question killed 43-year-old Joseph Novotny of Stevenson Ranch. He and fellow members of the Santa Clarita Velo Club were traveling on Bouquet Canyon Road around 11 am Sunday when they were struck by the 20-year-old’s truck. The two other cyclists were hospitalized but their conditions are not known.
The saddest part about this tragedy is that, as with most vehicular homicides, it could have been avoided. Mixing alcohol and driving is bad enough, but the driver ran from the accident scene, quite possibly because he knew he was breaking the law.
