15 total people were injured in a car accident that claimed the lives of three people in San Diego on Monday. A collision between two vehicles, an SUV and van, ended in a fiery mess that beckoned paramedics and fire officials to the scene of the accident.
On Tuesday, the victims of the crash were identified as current and former members of cross country teams at the California Baptist University and Cathedral Catholic High School. According to reports, the van containing the Cal Baptist University students was on its way to a camp in Mammoth, where the team was to embark on training efforts for the year. The SUV contained two young women, recent graduates and former athletes of Cathedral Catholic High School of San Diego.
Cal Baptist cross country coach Wendy Rice was driving the van when the SUV driven by the young women rolled over the median into opposing traffic, into the path of the van. The two women from the SUV, as well as Cal Baptist Coach Rice, died tragically in the accident. 11 of the student athletes in the Cal Baptist van were also injured, and taken to local hospitals for treatment, along with another occupant of the SUV.

A fall from a cliff in Encinitas has left a man hospitalized at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, after sustaining leg injuries and possible internal injuries as well. The fall took place on Tuesday, near Moonlight Beach at around 7:40 p.m.
The man, whose name was not released, was rescued by a lifeguard and firefighters after he was found lying on the beach, injured from the fall. When emergency medical teams arrived, he was treated for fractures to his legs before being transported to Scripps Memorial.
The cliff where the man fell from is in a marked area where signs warn of dangerous cliffs. There is also a fence isolating the cliffs from the main road, according to reports. It is unknown how the man came to fall from the cliff.

A boy who is only 8 years old was injured by a hit and run driver while walking on his way to his grandmother’s house in San Bernardino. The pedestrian hit and run accident left the boy in a hospital, listed in critical condition, on Monday.
After buying ice cream, the 8-year-old headed to his grandmother’s. A driver in a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck struck the boy, sending him 50 feet away. According to a witness, the hit and run driver left the scene of the accident without doing anything. The truck had magnetic business signs on its sides.
California Highway Patrol and medical teams reported to the scene of the accident on Saturday, transporting the boy to Loma Linda with head injuries. Officials are asking anyone with information to report it to authorities straightaway.

A collision between two paragliders close to Torrey Pines ended in one of them being injured, according to reports. The man is at a hospital in stable condition, with trauma in his shoulder and arm.
At around 4:15 p.m., the paragliders glided into each other midair. One of the paragliders, a 39-year-old man, lost control and crashed into a cliff.
The other paraglider was able to make a safe landing without suffering any injuries.
The 39-year-old man was escorted to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego at around 6:15, approximately two hours from the time of the crash.

A military golf course in San Diego was startled on Monday when a small home built plane crashed down on the course near the 11th hole. The home built plane crash resulted in four critical injuries and one death, authorities report.
One witness recounts seeing the small plane flying loudly overhead, only 10 feet above him. In seconds, the plane crashed into the 11th hole on north end of the course. On impacting the ground, the plane flipped before stopping on a slope. The plane crash took place at around 1 p.m. in the afternoon.
The plane contained five occupants at the time it crashed. Two of the occupants were adults, the other three children – a family of 5. One of the adults, a woman, was killed. A man and three children were escorted to the hospital with critical injuries.
Authorities gave linked the cause of the crash to a door that fell from the home built plane while it was en route to Fullerton Municipal Airport.

Three people have been declared dead in a car accident caused by a driver who ran a stop sign on Wednesday. The stop sign accident, in Fresno, involved two cars, a Pontiac and Honda.
During the afternoon on Wednesday, the driver of the Pontiac went through a stop sign without stopping, close to the intersection of American Avenue and Fig Avenue in Fresno. The Pontiac then crashed with the Honda, which was traveling perpendicular to him.
The driver of the Pontiac was uninjured. Three passengers from the Pontiac that ran the stop sign, however, were injured when the accident happened. Since the three of them were not wearing seatbelts, the impact of the crash flung them from their seats out of the car. Two were pronounced dead at the scene of the stop sign accident, while another was taken to a hospital and died later that day.
In the Honda, two people suffered injuries but escaped the tragic accident alive.

Bug bombs that were laid down in a National City home were part of an ignition and explosion when it and an unknown flame came into contact. The explosion injured two residents of the home, a father and his son.
According to reports, the explosion took place on Thursday in the early afternoon, around 12:30, at a home near interstate 805. The National City home contained 15 bug bombs in total – 12 or 13 more than the recommended for the size of the home. It is suspected that fumes of the bug bombs were ignited by a water heater, reports said.
In the house at the time of the bug bomb explosion were a family of five, including the father and son who were injured. The two of them were taken to USCD Medical Center, where they will be treated for burn injuries. Along with the injuries, the explosion also caused property damage to the home’s interior.

Driving stolen cars, two teens got into an accident on Thursday in San Diego. Both boys have now been arrested on charges of auto theft and stolen property, after engaging police in a very short police chase through San Diego.
The two teenagers, both male, are aged 14 and 15. They were driving through the Mount Hope neighborhood of San Diego in their stolen cars when a police offer saw them and attempted to stop them, guessing they were too young to drive. The teens attempted to flee from the officer, diverging and speeding through the city for a mile. The teenagers finally crashed into each other, and were caught.
After finally pulling them over, police discovered that the teenagers were both driving stolen cars, both of which were Hondas. One had already been reported stolen, the other had not. Both teens were arrested, but their names not released because of their status as minors.

A motorcycle and parked California Highway Patrol car were involved in an accident on Friday morning. At around 9 a.m., the motorcyclist smashed into the rear of the CHP vehicle on Interstate 5 in San Diego.
Authorities report that the CHP vehicle was parked in the median of the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, just before Sassafras Street. The motorcyclist, for unknown reasons, drove off into the car, which was unoccupied at the time.
As of now, the rider has been hospitalized at a local hospital. It is unknown the extent of the motorcyclist’s injuries.

Two vehicles crashed head on into each other in Clairemont Mesa West, a neighborhood in San Diego, on Wednesday. In both cars involved, the respective drivers were injured and taken to hospitals in the San Diego area.
At around 7:56 in the evening, one of the cars was being driven by an 18-year-old male, who tried to overtake another vehicle on the road in the 3400 block of Boyd Avenue. The 18-year old male, driving an Acura Integra, was going southbound, opposite a northbound Toyota Corolla. The Integra crashed into the Corolla, which was driven by a 67-year-old male.
Each driver was taken to the hospital, both with broken femurs. Passengers in each car had minor injuries, according to reports.
